What is the role of a notary public and what services do they provide?
A Notary Public can authenticate and legalise documents for individuals and companies for use in foreign jurisdictions. The service can involve assisting parties with property, financial transactions, inheritances and documents required in foreign jurisdictions.
What documents do I need to bring in order to have something notarised?
You must prove your identity by bringing your original passport and also prove your address by bringing a utility bill which is not more than 3 months old. The document to be notarised needs to be completed as much as possible by you.
How much does it cost to have Documents notariSed?
The fee can vary depending on the complexity, urgency, risk and time required to be spent. In the event a document needs to be apostilled or legalised, outlay will be payable to third parties such as the Department of Foreign Affairs. The fee can be advised once Mark Hennelly knows what Notary services needs to be provided.
How long does the notariSation process take?
Depending on the Notary service required, it can take a minimum of 15 minutes but it can take a lot longer depending on the complexity of the documents. Mark Hennelly can discuss this with you.

What types of documents can be notarised?
• certify documents as true copies of the originals such as original passports;
• certify signature and deeds and other documents including conveyances of real and
personal property;
• powers of attorney relating to real and personal property;
• note or certify transactions relating to negotiable instruments;
• prepare wills or other testamentary documents and
• draw up protests or other formal papers relating to occurrences on the voyages of ships and their navigation, as well as the carriage of cargo in ships.

Yes, Mark Hennelly can offer call out services for an additional charge which can be estimated once the appointment is made.
What is the process for getting a document apostilled or legalised?
The apostille process applies where foreign jurisdictions have signed and ratified or acceded to the Hague Convention. Once the document is notarised, It will be sent to the Department of Foreign Affairs who will apostille the document.
Can you certify a copy of a document?
The Notary Public may be able to provide a limited certificate however this is dealt with on a case by case basis.
Is there a difference between notarising a document and witnessing a signature?
They are both considered Notarial Acts by a Notary Public.
